ANC Seeks Inquiry Into Helicopter Nuisance

UPDATE ON HELICOPTER NUISANCE

February 2016

Following my attendance at a 2015 meeting in the Palisades about airplane noise, I contacted Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton’s office to complain about the low-flying helicopters over our homes and request they be re-routed. In June 2015, Delegate Norton sent Norton Letter to FAA re Helicopter Noise to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on our behalf, to reiterate our concerns about noise, damage to homes, etc… and to request an explanation and/or action. Apparently, her office never received a response. Finally, after several follow-up emails to her office, I received the following email below.

Should Delegate Norton host a community meeting with ANC 3/4G and the FAA to discuss this matter, we hope you will plan to attend so that this chronic nuisance may be resolved in our favor.

Thank you,

RE: PRESS RELEASE: Norton Requests Meeting with FAA to Address Neighborhood Helicopter Noise

Carolyn,

We have reached back out to the FAA so that we can find out the source of the helicopters and find a way to re-route them over areas that do not have homes. As soon as I have an update, I will let you know. I will also be checking with the Congresswoman whether it makes sense for us to hold a community meeting with the FAA and other federal agencies involved so they can hear directly from residents about the issue.

Regards,
Lauren

For quite sometime now, the Barnaby Woods/Hawthorne neighborhoods as well as Chevy Chase have experienced low flying helicopters overhead at all hours of the day and night.  I raised the issue to Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton’s office for investigation who was also investigating airplane noise complaints in the Palisades neighborhood.

I am happy to report that her office has sent an inquiry letter to the Federal Aviation Administration on our behalf.  It is attached for your review.

I will keep you posted on any response we receive back.
