ANC 3/4 G Grant Guidelines & Application

ANC 3/4 G is pleased to be able to award community grants in accordance with D.C. Code, Section 1-309.13(m) authorizing ANC’s to award grants to organizations for public purposes. The ANC is committed to using its budget allotment to provide such grants consistent with its other obligations and in accordance with the following guidelines and procedures:
ANC 3/4 G General Guidelines:
To be considered for a grant, a nonprofit group or volunteer group must demonstrate that the project for which they are requesting support will:
- Serve, in part or in whole, the public and/or public good within the geographical boundaries of ANC 3/4 G;
- Address one or more of the grant priorities set below;
- Not replicate any existing services provided by the D.C. government:
- Serve the largest number of ANC 3/4 G residents or class of residents (aged, youth, homeless, etc.).
Possible Grant Topics:
- Arts / Culture / History / National Awareness Month Activities / Education
- Extra-curricular Educational and Sports Activities for Pre-K to Grade 12 Students
- Historic Preservation Projects
- Homeless Outreach
- Neighborhood Beautification Activities
- “Friends of” Parks and Recreation Projects
- Program-Related Training and/or Equipment Purchase
- Public Safety Projects
- Senior Citizen Programs
Funding Available:
To the extent that its funding permits, ANC 3/4 G solicits grant applications on an annual basis in the Fall. Additionally, ANC 3/4 G may consider other grant requests that fall outside of our formal grant cycle on an as needed basis, subject to grant guidelines, grant priorities, and funding availability.
Grant Limits:
Grants will range from $100 to $2,000. No eligible organization will receive more than $2,000 in grant funding from ANC 3/4 G in a single fiscal year.
ANC 3/4 G will not award grants under the following circumstances:
- To a “for profit” organization or similar private enterprise;
- To an individual;
- For political, partisan, or lobbying activities;
- For food, beverage, or entertainment purposes;
- For salaries, wages, bonuses, or tips.
Annual Application Process:
Organizations interested in applying for an ANC 3/4 G Community Grant must:
- Complete the grant application and provide supplemental supporting documents prior to the application deadline.
- If the application meets the basic eligibility criteria, the applicant must present its proposal orally to ANC 3/4 G for consideration at the first regular ANC meeting following the deadline.
- ANC 3/4 G will vote on the eligible applications presented at the next ANC meeting after the meeting at which the presentations are made.
- If approved, grant recipients will receive their grant checks within 30 days of the vote, and must deposit and use the funds within 60 days of receipt of the check.
- Grant recipients must provide a written follow-up report and receipts of the expenses within 60 days of receipt of the grant check (see below under “Accountability” for requirements).
Accountability:
All grant recipients must explicitly agree to adhere to these grant guidelines as a condition of receiving an ANC 3/4 G Community Grant.
All grant recipients will provide ANC 3/4 G with a written follow-up report within 60 days of receipt of the grant check to include the following information:
- Description of the use of the grant funds;
- Target beneficiaries (who will benefit from the grant);
- Breakdown by quantity and/or cost of items;
- Description of the benefits derived from the grant; and
- Copies of receipts, invoices, etc., to show use of funds.
ANC 3/4 G welcomes electronic copies of letters, testimonials, photos, etc. from those that have benefited from the project/activity, so that we may share the benefits of the ANC grant with the larger community via website, social media, newsletters or via other communication methods. Everything that is submitted to ANC 3/4 G becomes subject to use at ANC 3/4 G’s discretion.
Publicizing the Community Grant Program:
ANC 3/4 G’s Community Grant will typically be announced by mid-September for a mid-October deadline using the following media and conventional outlets:
- ANC 3/4 G Website;
- The Northwest Current;
- Chevy Chase Community Listserv;
- NextDoor; and
- Social Media (Facebook and Twitter).
